1984 JANUARY 5,6: Meeting of local saints resolves to issue statements demanding opening of the locks with immediate effect.

1984 APRIL 6: Dharma Sansad of VHP held in Delhi to raise the same demand.

1986 FEBRUARY 3 : Mohammed Hashim of Ayodhya, moves High Court seeking quashing of the orders of the DJ Faizabad.

1990 JANUARY 27,28 :VHP's Marg Darshak Mandal and Sant Sammellan resolves to start karsewa for new Ram temple from February 14.

1990 FEBRUARY 3: CM Mulayam Singh Yadav convenes all party meeting on the issue but BJP boycotts.

1990 NOVEMBER 2: Firing on karsewaks again as thousands defy barricades. 32 killed.

1991 SEPTEMBER 28 :Marg Darshak Mandal meeting at Rishikesh constitutes 7 member subcommittee to work for removal of hurdles in way of construction of Ram temple.

1991 OCTOBER 7 :CM Kalyan Singh announces inquiry commission for Ayodhya to be headed by High Court serving judge.

1991 OCTOBER 7 :State government issues notification for acquiring 2.77acres of land in the disputed premises for `tourism development'

1991 OCTOBER 10 :Government acquires 2.77 acres of land inside the disputed premises including the Shilanyas site.

1991 OCTOBER 17 :Demolition work taken up on the acquired land inside the disputed premises as one temple of Keshav Das also demolished.

1991 OCTOBER 19 :

*Acquired land virtually given in VHP's control

*Bajrang Rudra Mahayagya starts at Karsewakpuram in Ayodhya

1991 OCTOBER 26 :The district administration takes over acquired land.

1991 OCTOBER 29: V.P. Singh arrested at Ram Sanehi Ghat while going to Ayodhya for protesting against acquisition and demolition of temples.

1991 OCTOBER 30 :

*Saffron flags installed on the acquired land as VHP observes Shaurya Diwas.

*CM Kalyan Singh assures Home minister in Delhi that status quo will be maintained at the disputed site.

1991 OCTOBER 31 :karsewaks raid disputed structure, damage it and install saffron flag atop the middle dome. 40 arrested. Inquiry team of leaders from Delhi attacked.

1992 MARCH 1 :*Lal Das removed from the position of head priest of Ram Janm Bhumi. *Lalji Tandon, Power minister, invites BMAC for talks on behalf of CM.

1992 MARCH 21: State government transfers 42 acres land to VHP for building Ram Katha Park.

1992 APRIL 8: State government tells HC that 12 big and small rooms were demolished on the acquired land.

1992 APRIL 19: BMAC refuses to enter into dialogue with the state government.

1992 APRIL 22 :CM Kalyan Singh refuses to communicate all details about Ayodhya developments to Centre.

1992 JULY 7 :VHP resolves to go in for temple renovation instead of construction of a new temple.

1992 JULY 8 : Levelling operations continue around disputed structure. Canopy removed by VHP.

1992 JULY 9 :Construction of 100 ft by 80 ft platform to serve as foundation of the new temple starts at Foundation site on the acquired 2.77 acre land by VHP.

1992 JULY 12: Home Minister SB Chavan visits construction site with a 16 member tem of officials.

1992 JULY 15 :High Court orders stay of construction activity at Ayodhya 1992 JULY 16: CM Kalyan Singh sends order from Delhi to implement court order. DM and SSP Faizabad called to Lucknow for briefing. DM and SSP give report that they cannot implement court order as there would be law and order problem.

1992 JULY 18 :NIC resolves to ask BJP to stop construction work.

1992 JULY 19: CM Kalyan Singh sends another order to district administration to implement court order but officials refuse to use force.

1992 JULY 25 :

*PM Narsihma Rao and VHP saints agree to call off karsewa at foundation site. karsewa stops at 2 pm.

*Ashok Singhal claims that Rao has assured results in solving the tangle in 3 months.

1992 AUG 15:Judicial commission appointed by the Supreme Court starts inquiry in Ayodhya to ascertain the logic of tourism department's construction project on 2.77 acres of acquired land.

1992 OCT 3: VHP and BMAC agree on October 23 as deadline for PM to solve the vexed I issue.
